Our Job
Terminal illness is often defined as the point at which nothing more can be done. We believe that although the disease may be incurable, there is much more that can be done for patients and their families during the end of life. The patient's dignity and quality of life while living with a terminal illness are the focus of all of our care.
The Goals of our Hospice Program
The goals of each patient and family will determine the plan of care. This care plan helps patients truly live without fear of losing control and dignity. Clinical and emotional symptoms are managed and the family receives comprehensive support. Because it's not possible for one person to adequately meet all of the needs, hospice uses a team approach, using many different people with different skills who work together. Families who enlist the services of hospice earlier in the disease process generally do better than those who wait until their loved one has only a few remaining days. End of life care is available to people of all ages who are living with a life limiting illness.
Services Include
- Prevention and control of pain and other symptoms
- Regular visits from the Hospice team including RN, CNA, Social Worker, Counselors and Spiritual support if requested
- Medications, equipment and supplies related to the terminal illness
- Emotional and spiritual support
- Volunteers who can provide relief time for the family
- Therapists as needed
- 24 hour On Call response 7 days a week

Mesilla Valley Hospice Team Approach
Mesilla Valley Hospice employs professional people who are committed to ensuring quality end of life care is available in Dona Ana County. Our Medical Director has dedicated over 15 years to this role. Six of our nurses are certified in Hospice and Palliative Care Nursing. Social Workers, Bereavement Counselors and Chaplaincy services help the family balance emotional and spiritual concerns with the patient's clinical needs.
