Planned Giving
Planned Giving refers to the thoughtful process of determining which giving options will most benefit the donor and Mesilla Valley Hospice. In addition to gifts of cash, MVH offers a number of planned giving options:
Gifts of Appreciated Property: Gifts of stocks, bonds or other assets that have increased in value since the time of purchase are exempt from capital gains taxes, and can be claimed as a charitable deduction equal to the fair market value.
Life Income Gifts: With a minimum annuity gift of $5,000, donors may receive direct financial benefits including income for life as well as the charitable income tax deduction.
Charitable Trust: There are several types of charitable trusts such as a charitable remainder trust that provide the donor with lifetime income and a charitable income tax deduction.
Real Estate: With an outright gift of commercial or residential real estate, the donor receives an income tax deduction based on the appraised fair market value of the property. You can choose to remain living in the home during your lifetime, paying taxes, insurance and maintenance, but receiving a substantial income tax deduction in the year the gift is made.
Life Insurance: Some donors choose to name Mesilla Valley Hospice as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy.
Estate Planning: A gift may be made through a will or trust leaving Mesilla Valley Hospice a dollar amount or percent of the estate.
Endowment Fund
Named endowments may be created to an initial gift of $5,000, while general contributions of the Endowment fund can be made with an initial gift of $1,500. Endowment funds provide hospice with earned interest income on the principle which is invested in the future of Mesilla Valley Hospice.
The MVH Endowment Fund offers four categories of use: Patient Care, Building and Grounds, Community Education and Bereavement Program.
