Continuing the Dream - Comfort. Care. Concern. Compassion.

At Mesilla Valley Hospice, comfort, care, concern, and compassion aren’t just words. They are the basis of the services we provide for your relatives, friends, and neighbors in Dona Ana County who have been diagnosed with a limited life expectancy.

For almost 25 years, Mesilla Valley Hospice has earned a reputation as a high quality, fiscally responsible organization where death can and does occur with peace and dignity, and where the medical, emotional, and spiritual needs of all are honored and supported with comfort, care, and compassion. Mesilla Valley Hospice operates La Posada, or “The Inn,” the only free-standing hospice facility in the State of New Mexico.

Now Mesilla Valley Hospice faces an even greater challenge – an exponential increase in the demand for its services. Having been regularly named one of the nation’s best retirement communities by Money and other national magazines over recent years, Las Cruces now finds itself as one of America’s most rapidly growing communities.

Since La Posada was opened in 1998, the days of service provided in the facility has increased by 773%. Currently all of the beds in La Posada are full and we often have to place patients (who may have only days or weeks to live) on a waiting list.

During the same time period, the days of services Mesilla Valley Hospice has provided to patients in their homes, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities has also grown by over 321%.

To meet current and projected needs for end-of-life care in Dona Ana County, Mesilla Valley Hospice has embarked on a $6.2 million capital campaign, Continuing the Dream, to complete the final two phases of our campus master plan.

With the support of our many friends in the community, Mesilla Valley Hospice will:

  • expand its La Posada inpatient facility,
  • construct an in-home care center and RV park,
  • and complete and enhance its grounds.

The 14,000-square-foot expansion of La Posada will include:

  • 12 additional patient rooms;
  • a non-denominational chapel;
  • an expanded kitchen;
  • additional gathering areas and sitting rooms; and
  • parking spaces and hook ups for recreational vehicles.

The new in-home care center will provide over 10,000 square feet of space for our nurses, chaplains, social workers, and others who are dedicated to out-patient services for our many families who choose to care for their loved ones at home. The building will include:

  • staff resource rooms;
  • 3 private conference rooms;
  • a large meeting/conference room which will be made available to other community groups and nonprofit organizations free of charge.

Capital Campaign

By adding more walking trails, wheelchair paths, and shaded areas, and building a children’s playground, we hope to enhance our “campus” feel and encourage patients and family members to enjoy our beautiful Southwestern sunshine and spectacular sunsets. Several new gardens – including a rose garden and a veterans’ memorial -- will provide tranquil green space for dreaming of the future and remembering the past.

As a non-profit organization dedicated to providing direct client services, Mesilla Valley Hospice’s annual budget of just over $5.8 million is fully committed to the care of our patients and their family members. The $6.2 million required for this expansion will come from private gifts and grants. The support of our entire community -- and donations of all sizes -- will be necessary to reach this ambitious goal.

A significant percentage of the total campaign goal has already been raised and one hundred percent of our staff and Board members have made personal financial commitments to this project.

Won’t you please consider helping Mesilla Valley Hospice continue its dream by making a personally meaningful gift to our capital expansion project?

Many of the spaces in this expansion – such as the community rooms, gardens, gazebos, RV spaces, and stained glass windows in the chapel -- are available as naming opportunities by which you may choose to honor or memorialize an individual, family, or organization.

With your investment in our dream, you will help ensure that your family, friends, and neighbors will receive compassionate end-of-life care when the need arises.

To make a pledge, reserve a naming opportunity, or receive more information, contact Terra Van Dyke at (575) 525-5720 or tvandyke@mvhospice.org
